Groote Post wine farm is a family run vineyard located on the Cape’s west coast. Here they utilize the cool near-coastal conditions of the darling hills to produce unique wine, grounded in traditional methods. Both the process and final results are a testimony to the character of the west coast. While there is a variety of wines to indulge in, the past weekend the spotlight was put on the Sauvignon Blanc.
Groote Post celebrated Sauvignon Blanc day with an in depth tasting of their Kapokberg and Seasalter range, accompanied by a delicious canape menu. Yzerfontein Accommodation was lucky to be a part of the festivities and we had a blast learning more about their unique approach to this particular varietal. Wine maker Lukas Wentzel guided us through each wine with wit and wisdom, eager to answer questions and encouraging feedback throughout.
“The event aimed to celebrate Sauvignon Blanc Day. However this year we did not want to restrict it to just one day, but spread it across 3 days. We wanted to share our love of Sauvignon Blanc with our Groote Post friends. It’s a wine that lends itself to so many aspects and flavors” said Peter Pentz, Communications Manager at Groote Post. “We considered it to be highly successful, with a good turnout of Sauvignon Blanc lovers. It was a lovely opportunity to sample some older wines and to showcase how beautiful this varietal can age.”
From fantastic wines, phenomenal food pairings and friendly hosts, an all-round great experience. We highly recommend our guests put a visit to Groote Post vineyard on their to-do list when staying with us. You won’t regret it.
